READING — A Pennsylvania resident has become the latest victim of an online scam after losing thousands of dollars to a fraudulent Facebook page posing as a legitimate car dealership.
According to Pennsylvania State Police in Berks County, the victim, a man in his 60s whose identity remains undisclosed, fell prey to the deception by purchasing a vintage vehicle advertised on a Facebook page. Shockingly, the man wired a staggering $44,500 to the scammers under the belief that he was acquiring the vehicle.
Assurances were made by the supposed dealership that the purchased vehicle would be promptly delivered. However, as days passed, the promised car failed to materialize, leaving the victim in distress and realizing he had been duped.
Attempts to establish contact with the individual behind the Facebook page proved futile, leaving the victim grappling with the devastating loss of his hard-earned money.
